About Rex.zone and This Role

Rex.zone connects engineers with remote industrial automation opportunities. In this role, you will build and support industrial robotic systems such as articulated arms, SCARA robots, cobots, and automated material handling, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to deliver stable robotic cells from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities

Design industrial robot workcells including tooling, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) requirements, and sensor placement; develop robot programs using OEM environments and/or ROS-based stacks; implement motion planning, trajectory optimization, and cycle-time improvements; integrate PLCs, fieldbus (e.g., EtherNet/IP, PROFINET), and safety PLC logic with robot controllers; calibrate robots, cameras, and coordinate frames for repeatable performance; develop perception pipelines using 2D/3D vision for picking, inspection, and localization; run simulation/digital twin validation and offline programming; execute commissioning plans, acceptance testing, and production ramp support; perform root-cause analysis on downtime events and implement corrective actions; document SOPs, maintenance procedures, and validation reports aligned with plant QA and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

Mid-senior experience delivering industrial robotics or automation systems; hands-on robot programming (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA, UR, Yaskawa) and commissioning experience; strong fundamentals in kinematics, dynamics, controls, and industrial networking; experience integrating PLCs and safety systems (e-stops, light curtains, safety-rated monitored stop); proficiency in Python and/or C++ for robotics software and tooling; experience with ROS/ROS2 or equivalent middleware; understanding of computer vision, metrology, and sensor calibration; ability to create test plans, run QA evaluations, and track reliability metrics (MTBF/MTTR); clear written documentation and cross-functional communication skills for remote collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with 3D vision (structured light, stereo, ToF) and point-cloud processing; familiarity with MoveIt/OMPL or OEM motion toolkits; experience building digital twins in tools like Gazebo, Isaac Sim, RoboDK, Process Simulate, or equivalent; exposure to manufacturing domains (automotive, electronics, food and beverage, logistics) and lean/continuous improvement; knowledge of functional safety standards and risk assessment practices; experience with CI/CD for robotics software, automated regression testing, and telemetry/monitoring.

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

Understand system requirements and operating constraints for target production lines; deliver at least one validated robot program update improving cycle time or reliability; implement a structured QA test checklist for commissioning and regression testing; close recurring downtime issues through root-cause fixes and improved diagnostics; document configuration, calibration procedures, and safe operating envelopes so teams can operate and maintain the cell confidently.
