About This Remote Robotics Role

You will design and improve robotics software for autonomous behavior, integrating perception, localization, mapping, planning, and control into a reliable system. Typical work includes building ROS/ROS 2 nodes, defining message interfaces, tuning controllers, integrating sensors, and validating performance using simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, and field logs. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and ML teams to translate product requirements into robust robotic capabilities, while maintaining engineering standards such as test coverage, code review, and reproducible builds.

Key Responsibilities

Develop robotics software components in C++/Python using ROS/ROS 2, including drivers, perception pipelines, and autonomy behaviors Implement and tune localization and mapping workflows (SLAM), including loop closure strategies and map management Build sensor fusion pipelines combining camera, LiDAR, wheel odometry, GPS (when available), and IMU for stable state estimation Implement motion planning and control for mobile robots and/or manipulators, including trajectory generation and tracking Create simulation scenarios and automated tests in Gazebo/Isaac Sim to validate autonomy features before deployment Analyze field logs and telemetry to diagnose failures, improve robustness, and reduce downtime and navigation errors Collaborate cross-functionally to define safety constraints, operational envelopes, and performance metrics Maintain code quality with Git workflows, CI/CD, documentation, and reproducible development environments on Linux

Required Qualifications

Mid-Senior experience delivering production robotics software or autonomy features in a commercial or research environment Strong C++ and Python skills with practical experience building distributed systems and debugging concurrency issues Hands-on experience with ROS/ROS 2, TF frames, navigation stacks, and common robotics tooling Solid understanding of estimation, kinematics, and control (e.g., Kalman filtering concepts, PID/MPC basics) Experience integrating and calibrating sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, IMU, and wheel encoders Comfortable working remotely with structured engineering processes: tickets, code reviews, and test-driven improvements

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with SLAM back-ends (pose graph optimization), scan matching, or visual-inertial odometry Experience with manipulation planning, grasping, and perception for robotic arms Familiarity with embedded or real-time constraints, including profiling and performance optimization Experience deploying robotics software in warehouses, last-mile delivery, healthcare, agriculture, or industrial automation Exposure to safety validation, fault detection, and redundancy strategies for autonomy

Tools And Tech Stack

ROS/ROS 2, Nav2, TF, RViz C++, Python, Linux Gazebo, Isaac Sim, digital twins, hardware-in-the-loop testing Perception: OpenCV, point cloud processing, camera/LiDAR pipelines Build and delivery: Git, CMake/colcon, Docker (where applicable), CI/CD

What Success Looks Like

Autonomy features are stable across environments, with measurable improvements in navigation reliability and task completion rates Localization and planning performance meets latency and accuracy targets for real-time operation Incidents are reduced through better testing, log-based debugging, and clear operational constraints Engineering velocity improves via reusable modules, documentation, and strong CI test coverage
