About the Role

As a Robot Controls Engineer, you will own key parts of the robot controls stack, including controller design, tuning, and validation for autonomous or semi-autonomous robotic systems. You will implement and test control loops for motion control, force/torque control, and stability, ensuring consistent behavior across operating conditions. You will partner with cross-functional teams to integrate sensors and actuators, instrument telemetry, and improve system robustness through simulation, HIL testing, and on-robot experiments.

Key Responsibilities

You will design, implement, and tune feedback controllers (PID, LQR/MPC where applicable) for robotic subsystems; develop trajectory generation and trajectory tracking pipelines; build state estimation using sensor fusion and filtering (e.g., Kalman filters); integrate controls with embedded and real-time software constraints (latency, jitter, compute limits); validate controller performance in simulation and on hardware using structured test plans; collaborate on actuator/sensor selection, calibration, and bring-up; define safety interlocks and fault-handling behaviors aligned with robotics safety requirements; create clear documentation for control parameters, tuning procedures, and test results.

Required Qualifications

Mid-Senior experience in robot controls or control systems engineering; strong fundamentals in control theory, robotics dynamics/kinematics, and state estimation; proficiency in C/C++ and/or Python for controls implementation and tooling; experience with real-time systems and performance profiling for control loops; hands-on experience with sensors and actuators (encoders, IMUs, motors, servo drives) and closed-loop control; familiarity with ROS/ROS2 or comparable robotics middleware; ability to run experiments, analyze data, and iterate on controller tuning with disciplined engineering practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with trajectory optimization, MPC, or advanced control methods; experience with industrial automation (PLC integration, fieldbuses) and safety standards; experience with simulation environments (Gazebo, Isaac, MuJoCo, or custom simulators) and HIL rigs; background in mobile robots, manipulators, AGVs/AMRs, drones, or humanoid platforms; strong ownership of production robotics deployments, including reliability, monitoring, and incident response.

Tools and Workflows

You will work with a modern robotics toolchain including ROS/ROS2 nodes, real-time control loops, embedded controllers, data logging/telemetry, and structured experimentation. Typical workflows include controller tuning, trajectory tracking evaluation, system identification, test automation, regression testing, and performance verification using simulation and on-robot testing.

Remote Work and Collaboration

This is a Remote, full-time role based in the US. You will collaborate asynchronously via documentation and code reviews, and synchronously through planning sessions focused on test results, controller performance, and cross-team integration milestones.

Compensation

Salary range for this role is USD 63360 to USD 126720 per year, depending on skills alignment, scope, and experience level. Compensation details are provided in a manner consistent with the posting intent for Robot Controls Engineer Jobs.

How to Apply

Apply through Rex.zone by submitting your resume and a short summary of your robot controls experience, including systems you have tuned, control loop frequencies, test methods, and examples of improving stability, tracking error, or robustness. Include links to relevant projects, publications, or code samples where possible.
