About the Role

As a Robotics Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain autonomy and automation capabilities for robotic systems in a remote, full-time capacity. The work typically spans robotics software architecture, perception pipelines, navigation and motion planning, and closed-loop control, with an emphasis on reliability, testing, and deployability. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to translate product requirements into robotic behaviors, integrate sensors and actuators, and improve robot performance through iterative experimentation in simulation and on hardware.

Key Responsibilities

Own robotics software modules for perception, planning, and control within ROS/ROS2-based systems. Build and maintain sensor integration pipelines (camera, LiDAR, IMU, wheel odometry) and ensure time synchronization and calibration. Implement and tune SLAM and localization approaches and evaluate drift, loop closure, and map consistency. Develop motion planning and navigation stacks, including trajectory generation, collision checking, and recovery behaviors. Design and tune controllers (PID, MPC or model-based control as applicable) and validate stability and tracking performance. Establish simulation workflows (Gazebo or equivalent) and hardware-in-the-loop tests to de-risk deployments. Create robust logging, telemetry, and debugging tools for field data and regression analysis. Write production-quality code in C++ and Python with reviews, CI, and automated tests. Partner with mechanical, electrical, and product teams to align interfaces, constraints, and performance targets. Document architectures, interfaces, and operational procedures to support maintainability and scaling.

Required Qualifications

Mid-senior experience delivering robotics or autonomy features in production or advanced prototypes. Strong proficiency in C++ and Python for robotics software development. Working experience with ROS/ROS2 concepts such as nodes, topics, services, actions, TF, and rosbag. Solid understanding of kinematics, dynamics, state estimation, and control systems. Practical experience with motion planning, navigation, and collision avoidance concepts. Familiarity with SLAM, localization, and sensor fusion methods and evaluation practices. Comfort debugging multi-sensor systems, timing issues, and real-world edge cases. Ability to work independently in a remote environment with strong written communication.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with computer vision pipelines (feature tracking, stereo, depth, object detection) and performance profiling. Familiarity with common robotics middleware and mapping stacks (Nav2, MoveIt, or equivalents). Experience with simulation, test automation, and scenario-based evaluation. Exposure to safety considerations, fail-safe behaviors, and operational monitoring for robots in the field. Background in industrial automation, AMRs, drones, manipulators, or mobile robotics products.

Tools and Workflows

Typical stacks include ROS/ROS2, C++/Python, Linux, Git-based development, and CI pipelines. Simulation and evaluation may use Gazebo and custom test harnesses, plus structured logs and metrics for regression tracking. Teams often rely on reproducible builds, coding standards, and design reviews to keep autonomy and control changes safe and auditable.
