About the Role

As a Remote Robotics Engineer (Mexico City), you will design, implement, and validate robotics software for autonomous or semi-autonomous platforms. You will work across robot perception, localization, mapping, motion planning, and control, ensuring reliable performance in simulation and real-world testing. The role includes integrating sensors (camera, LiDAR, IMU), maintaining ROS/ROS 2 packages, improving runtime stability, and contributing to CI-based testing and deployment. You will collaborate with product, hardware, and QA teams to translate requirements into safe, measurable robot behaviors that scale across environments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain robotics software components in C++ and Python for ROS/ROS 2. Build and tune localization and mapping pipelines (SLAM) and sensor fusion for robust state estimation. Implement and improve motion planning and control algorithms (trajectory generation, tracking, collision avoidance). Integrate sensors and drivers; ensure time synchronization, calibration, and reliable data pipelines. Create simulation scenarios in Gazebo or comparable simulators to reproduce edge cases and validate behaviors. Define metrics for performance, safety, and reliability; execute regression testing and post-mortem analysis. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features from prototype to production readiness. Document architecture, interfaces, and operating procedures; enforce coding standards and review practices.

Required Qualifications

Mid-Senior experience delivering robotics or autonomous systems software in production or advanced R&D. Strong C++ and Python skills with debugging, profiling, and performance optimization. Hands-on ROS/ROS 2 experience: nodes, topics, TF, parameterization, launch systems, and bag workflows. Knowledge of SLAM, state estimation, and sensor fusion fundamentals (e.g., EKF/UKF concepts). Understanding of motion planning and control systems with practical tuning experience. Experience with simulation and test automation; ability to reproduce issues and validate fixes. Comfort working remotely with distributed teams, written design docs, and async collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with computer vision perception stacks, object detection, tracking, or depth estimation for robotics. Familiarity with safety engineering concepts, fault detection, and operational monitoring for robots. Experience with embedded or real-time constraints and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Knowledge of mapping formats, route planning, and fleet-level deployment considerations. Experience building CI pipelines for robotics (unit tests, integration tests, simulation regression).

Tools and Workflows You Will Use

ROS/ROS 2 development and debugging, including TF frames and bag playback. C++ toolchains, Python tooling, and automated testing. Simulation-driven development using Gazebo or similar. Version control, code review, and CI/CD pipelines for robotics software. Performance metrics, logging, and structured incident analysis.

Remote Work and Collaboration

This is a Remote, FULL_TIME role. You will coordinate with teammates across time zones, participate in planning and technical reviews, and maintain clear written communication. You will work with structured requirements, measurable acceptance criteria, and test-driven delivery to ensure consistent outcomes for robotics systems.

Compensation

Salary Range: 63360–126720 USD per YEAR, depending on experience, scope, and technical fit.
