About the Role

As a SLAM Robotics Engineer, you will design, implement, and tune localization and mapping components that power autonomous navigation. You will work on real-world robotics data, improve robustness across environments, and partner with perception, controls, and platform teams to deliver reliable pose estimates and maps in production.

Key Responsibilities

Own SLAM robotics engineer workflows including sensor calibration, time synchronization, and multi-sensor fusion; build and tune visual SLAM and LiDAR SLAM pipelines; implement state estimation (EKF/UKF), factor graph optimization, and loop closure strategies; improve mapping, relocalization, and drift mitigation in long trajectories; integrate SLAM outputs with navigation stack components (odometry, costmaps, planners); create evaluation suites using rosbag playback, simulation, and ground truth benchmarking; debug field failures using logs, metrics, and reproducible test cases; write production-grade robotics software with performance profiling and CI testing.

Required Qualifications

Mid-Senior experience delivering SLAM or localization systems for robots; strong C++ and practical Python for tooling and evaluation; hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2, tf transforms, and robotics middleware; solid fundamentals in estimation, probability, optimization, and geometry; experience with at least one of: visual-inertial odometry, pose graphs, factor graphs, scan matching, ICP; ability to evaluate accuracy using trajectory metrics (ATE/RPE) and map quality metrics; strong debugging skills across sensors, drivers, and real-time pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience shipping autonomy on mobile robots, AMRs, drones, or field robotics; familiarity with GTSAM, Ceres, Eigen, OpenCV, PCL, and point cloud registration; experience with calibration toolchains, IMU pre-integration, and time sync; familiarity with simulation (Gazebo, Isaac Sim) and synthetic data; knowledge of navigation stack tuning, controls interfaces, and motion constraints; exposure to embedded or edge optimization (profiling, CPU/GPU constraints).

Tools, Systems, and Data

You will work with ROS/ROS2, C++ build systems, bagged sensor datasets, and simulation. Common inputs include LiDAR scans, camera frames, IMU streams, wheel odometry, and GPS. Common outputs include pose estimates, local and global maps, and uncertainty metrics used downstream by planning and control.

Remote Work Expectations

This role is Remote (US). You will collaborate across time zones using documented design reviews, reproducible evaluation artifacts, and automated test pipelines. Occasional coordination with field testing teams may be needed for log collection and validation.
